How do you get into the Grammys?
Album Eligibility
To be eligible for GRAMMY Award consideration, an album must contain greater than 75 percent playing time of newly recorded (within five years of the release date), previously unreleased recordings*. The current eligibility rule is 50 percent.
Grammy tickets are not for sale to the public and are intended only for Recording Academy members and their invited guests.
More than 20,000 albums are submitted to the The Recording Academy every year, and only a handful actually take home hardware. It's not only top artists and producers who have the honor of voting. But it's also not every dude who works in the industry either.
Entries are submitted by record companies as well as members of the academy and are reviewed to determine eligibility and category placement. The voting members of NARAS, through a series of ballots, select five nominees for each award and ultimately the winner; the voters cast ballots only in their areas of expertise.
Recording Academy membership dues are $100 annually.
But even though The Recording Academy doesn't give out physical checks with statuettes, Grammy winners still report an upward tick in their concert ticket sales and producer fees after they snag an award.

The R&B superstar was thought to be a strong contender in the Big Four categories, including album of the year for his fourth LP After Hours, which spent four consecutive weeks at No.

The year represents the year in which the Grammy Awards were awarded for works published in the previous year. Supposedly, winning the award for best new artist is considered by many to be a curse, as many artists who have won this award have not been able to repeat the success they achieved in the year of their debut.
